In a statement released by his children Nicole, Alexander and son-in-law Ted Sarandos the Avant/Sarando’s family stated: “It is with a heavy heart that the Avant/Sarandos family announce the passing of Clarence Alexander Avant. Through his revolutionary business leadership, Clarence affectionately became known as “the Black Godfather” in the worlds of music, entertainment, politics and sports.
“Clarence leaves behind a loving family and a sea of friends and associates that have changed the world and will continue to change the world for generations to come. The joy of his legacy eases the sorrow of our loss. Clarence passed away gently at home in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 13, 2023.”
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my dear friend Clarence Avant. Clarence was a dear and trusted friend for many years, and we worked closely together during my time as President of the Brotherhood Crusade, where he served as Chairman of the Board for decades. Clarence was also the recipient of the Brotherhood Crusade Pioneers of Black Achievement Award. Clarence was a relentless warrior for the advancement of Black people not only within the entertainment world but throughout this nation,” stated longtime friend, Danny J. Bakewell, Sr., Chairman and Executive Publisher of Bakewell Media and Board Chairman of the Los Angeles Brotherhood Crusade “His undeniable influence will forever be felt, admired and greatly appreciated by me and the countless other people who have benefited from his work and influence. My heart goes out to Nicole, Alex and Ted and the entire Avant/Sarandos family. The one gleaming bit of happiness that I can take from the very sad time is that Clarence and his beloved wife Jacqui are once again together again.”
