Newspaper: Los Angeles Sentinel On Monday, January 21, the Brotherhood Crusade will participate in the Kingdom Day Parade. “Dr. Martin Luther King exemplified the efficacy of partnership to achieve change. For the past two years, I have employed that same strategy by collaborating with Verizon, Washington Mutual and other corporations committed to improving the lives of people of color,” said President and CEO Charisse Bremond Weaver. “Starting with my father, Walter Bremond and then past President Danny J. Bakewell, Sr. the Brotherhood Crusade has used Dr. King’s model for nonviolent activism for 40 years. We have raised and donated 60 million dollars to minority businesses, healthcare entities, family services and domestic violence shelters in South Los Angeles. Through advocacy and community building, the Brotherhood Crusade has kept Dr. King’s dream alive,” she added. Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated 40 years ago. His legacy of truth and hard work has been the foundation for many civil rights organizations, including the Brotherhood Crusade. “I am grateful to be one of the torchbearers for African Americans in the 21st century. As we celebrate the Kingdom Day Parade let’s not forget the courageous King women: wife Coretta Scott King and daughter Yolanda King,” said Bremond Weaver.
