BROTHERHOOD CRUSADE PARTNERS WITH CORPORATE DIVERSIONS DONATES BICYCLES TO DESERVING YOUTH

(Los Angeles) On Thursday, November 8, 2007, L.A. Bridges students traveled by Amtrak to San Juan Capistrano to meet engineers from Germany, UK, Japan, France and USA. The team building exercise resulted in the assembly of 12 bicycles for a lucky few. By the end of the year, 28 more bicycles will be donated. “We do this for the students and hope in some way they will continue to bring smiles to others as they become productive citizens,” said Nancy Vanderlip, V.P. & General Counsel for ITT Industries. President and CEO Charisse Bremond Weaver agreed, “L.A. Bridges is one of Brotherhood Crusade’s signature programs. Our goal is to provide excellent tutoring and mentoring to the youth in our community, so that they will grow up to help others.”

This event, sponsored by Corporate Diversions, LLC, an event planning company for corporate giants such as ITT Industries, brought smiles, tears and laughter from both kids and adults. “The students were so excited. They couldn’t wait to get back to Horace Mann and tell their friends,” commented Will Harris, Director of the L.A. Bridges Program.

The 12 middle-school recipients were chosen for a variety of reasons. Some had improved and maintained high grade point averages; one had recently been elected Student Body President; and the others were awarded bicycles, because their families could not afford to purchase them. Aisha Cooper said that she didn’t know how to ride a bike and now she could learn. Dewan Henry added, “I didn’t think we were going to have Christmas.”

“This is why we do what we do,” said Bremond Weaver.
