Brotherhood Crusade, The Gas Company, Commissioner Tim Simon of the CPUC and others Co-Sponsor The Second Annual District 8 Utility – Science Fair, Saturday, May 26, 2007

(Los Angeles) Brotherhood Crusade will join The Gas Company, Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks, Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent David Brewer, the California Public Utilities Commission (Commission Tim Simon) and the American Association of Blacks in Energy on Saturday, May 26 at Jesse Brewer Park from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. for the Second Annual District 8 Utility Science Fair.

The Fair will focus on bringing energy education and customer assistance programs from participating utilities to customers and constituents in South Los Angeles and the 8th City Council District. Approximately 2,500 people are expected to attend, with an hourly raffle for payment of utility bills up to $150, along with other prizes.

During the press conference, winners of the 1st annual essay contest on Global Warming will be announced. Students from local high schools and middle schools are eligible to compete; with $1,000 going to the high school winner and $500 to the middle school winner. Elementary school kids are encouraged to participate in the drawing contest, also on Global Warming, and that winner will receive $100 and a gift card, plus their art will be displayed with an ad in the local media. Winning schools will receive a $500 gift certificate to purchase supplies.
